There is at least one relationship in almost every single generation in Naruto (i.e., Naruto/Sasuke, Kakashi/Obito, Jiraiya/Orochimaru, Hiruzen/Danzou(sort of), Hashirama/Madara), and every time, the "bad" one went off and became a crazy psycho destroy-all-and-become-immortal maniac. Really makes me wonder about the ending of this inconsistency-riddled story.
I always figured the Hatake were an offshoot of the Senju and the Second's wife (if there ever was one) was a Hatake woman as part of a political alliance with the splinter clan. Now I'm thinking they were distant offshoots of the Uchiha.
Like Naruto taking up 'Uzumaki' instead of 'namikaze' was probs to avoid outside targetting....plus i wonder what became of the rest of the senju...people were taking up different surnames???? o.O i could understand with tobirama and his children/grandchildren(if he had any)..after all he was the last full 100% pedigree senju in control of the village...paranoid with the Uchiha lol...he may have thought that they would target and kill his legacies and what was left of the senju in the village...(though he said himself that he was expecting a rebellion at one point)
No - its Madara's general face shape, but what had me thinking Hatakes were offshoots of the Senju came from a ways back in the Gaiden. Senjus were reknown for carrying powerful chakra in the body. And given that the White Fang was reknown for a Tanto that he channeled his Chakra into - giving it a white streak and Sakumo, his codename/title.
Be warned - This is purely fanon on my behalf.
It was described as adaptable and heritary, thus Kakashi carried the ability to utilize it. That was what made me think that the Hakate family/clan were diluted offshoots of the Senju. However, given that Kakashi had the ability to evolve his Sharingan, I take that to mean one of three things:
1 - Hatake chakra is far more adaptable than we intially realised and is able to sufficently fuel the Sharingan's development at the cost of a percentage his stamina.
2 - He carries the distant blood of an Uchiha relative (granted, I will literally vomit in rage if this turns out to be the case.) that's far enough back to not be a carrier of the Sharingan trait but has a body that - while not completely compadible - can maintain its functions indefinitely.
3 - His Chakra, being an offshoot of the original Senju, detects and recognises the Sharingan as the 'eye(s) of the sage' and they resonate with each other, evolving as time passes.
Now, that last one sounds outlandish, so allow me to explain. In the Gaiden, we see Kakashi who had just recieved the Sharingan. Literally ten seconds after it's fully implanted, he's already using it rather effectively in battle. By the time we see him during Obito's recent flashback which would be a couple of months to a year later, it's already in its fully evolved state and later it transforms into the Sharingan after he slays Rin. Now - that leads me to another massive blow to Kakashi in general, but I will get to that.
As the Second, Tobimara, explained: An Uchiha's chakra alters the brain when someone is taken from them. This results in the Sharingan being activated and another loss further alters the brain to allow the formation of a Mangeykou - thus leading to their own spiral down into obsessive psychopathy.
Following the Third Theory I've placed forward, and the Idea of the Sage's 'Eyes' and 'Body'.
The reason Kakashi didn't appear to spiral down into a pit of hatred and self-destruction was because the Chakra he was born allowed the Sharingan to evolve of its own accord while mostly countering it's affects. Also, it's probably the reason he hasn't gone blind in that eye yet. The 'obsession' side effect seems only to come into play with his porn and the resolve to protect his companions from harm. Sure, he lost his family, he lost his sensei and several of his closest friends, but he still gets up and moves forward. An Uchiha in the same position would go on a bloody rampage. A Senju/Uzumaki would accept it, get angry, cry, grieve, but move on.
BUT. But... there is a flip side.
What if? After obtaining the Mangekyou, Kakashi's mentality truly had changed into that more closely aligned with the Uchiha? What if the Death of Rin wasn't the result of some attackers, like Obito's memories would have us believe. Remember, memories can be overwritten, made up and some people would rather escape into false memories than face the reality of what happens to them. What if Kakashi actually killed her out of malice and tried to hide it by lying to himself? What if the entire time we've seen him, he's been a sociopath secretly plotting on taking the whole village for a ride for nearly 15 years as a revenge-by-proxy for his family's former disgrace? What if he knew Obito was listening in on his chat to Rin's grave and engineered the destruction of the village for himself?
Granted that last part is just me wanting him to have an evil streak. And, um... I pretty much have nothing left to say for now... so, feel free to mule that over.
Hey now, there's no such thing as too outlandish where the Narutoverse is concerned. I'm thrilled to see Kakashi-centric theories like these, as it definitely gives me something to think about.
You mentioned the role that Kakashi's white chakra could be playing--in his heritage as well as his manipulation of the sharingan. I was pleased to see Kishimoto give a nod to Kakashi's white chakra on a recent volume cover. It's been sorely missed since the Gaiden (the chakra arcing of Kakashi's tanto back then looked phenomenal).
At the moment, I'm watching the conversation among the Edo Kages as well as the events at the Juubi battlefield, wondering if there's an opportunity for Kakashi and/or the chakra issue to be brought up. There's potential when the Rin issue is resolved, as obviously something unusual was going on. If it was the malicious taint of the Uchiha influencing Kakashi, as you speculated earlier . . . wow.
what i don't get is that Kakashi and Obito got from 2 tomoe sharigan to ms in one fell swoop and at the same time while in close proximity to each other...now like you mentioned about Tobirama...He said that 'special chakra' from the brain (uchiha)and causes the evolution to happen...now i know people keep saying there is a link between the two eyes...but that doesn't explain it...how the hell could kakashi have even been able to simultaneously awaken the ms with obito's when Tobirama specifically said that the Uchiha have this 'special chakra' that changes the eyes.. there is more to this...Kakashi defies Tobirama's scientific explanation....wow what a bamf
My personal opinion: I'm sick of flashbacks. It's another Naruto-Sasuke or Jiraiya-Orochimaru background. We finally get to meet all the hokages and now a flashback inside a flashback?? I don't need to know the truth about how every bad guy used to be a good guy and how they end up fighting with their friends and trying to destroy Konoha, we already seen that a bunch of times!! I'm kind of mad with Kishimoto, it's frustrating.
Really? When? I really like Naruto, but I just don't get why we need to know everybody's background, specially cause most of those backgrounds are pretty much the same. My guess is that Madara used to be a good guy, Hashirama's friend, then something bad happened to him and so, he decided to destroy Konoha, but in the inside, he just wanted people to understand his pain. I hope I'm wrong, I really hope so. I just want Kishimoto to surprise us with a new and fresh plot, not recycling the same story and changing the characters.
